Kids Lacrosse the World makes its inaugural trip to Ranau, Malaysia in the southern state of Sabah on the island of Borneo. Our goal is to create the first youth lacrosse program in Malaysia by providing the equipment/coaching/mentoring necessary to run a sustainable program year round at the SMK MAT SALLEH School. This program will be the first of it's kind in the South East Asia region of the world. We will call our program the Ranau Lacrosse Project which aims to incorporate lacrosse multiple schools in the Ranau district of Sabah. Our staff on this trip includes Elliott Couch and Kelly Case.
Our Trip Instruction and Coaching Itinerary can be found here
With our arrival on the 25th of August and departure on the 4th of September, we will have 7 - 8 days of full instruction with students and school leaders on the sport of lacrosse. During the weekend, we will hold an English Camp in conjunction with local English teachers in the Ranau district, incorporating hundreds of students in fun games and activities with a focus on lacrosse and it's principals. Our program is brought together in partnership with Jimalax our official mesh and stringing sponsor who is allowing us to bring supplies to hold stringing clinics with our student athletes. Another major equipment donor for this program is the DoCo Lacrosse Club and Colorado Wild Youth Lacrosse Club of Denver, Colorado. Kelly Case will serve as our local coordinator with the SMK School, providing us with access to local resources to support the lacrosse program.
Through a dedication to documentation we hope to capture our activities with the community of Ranau and our positive impact during our interactions. While there, we will have limited access to internet and social media, updating our sources with important and pertinent information relating to our trip. We couldn't be more excited to be traveling to Malaysia to spread the game of lacrosse! Kids Lacrosse the World has a tremendous amount of appreciation for the groups and individuals who have helped support us in our effort with this project. We hope to leave Ranau a better place, and can't wait to publish and inform the public on our positive impact in the Malaysian community.
